This is going to be an intense summer for Deebase! After having launched a civic engagement campaign in association with Manifest Blaugrana, in August we’ll present the Deebase platform to an international conference organized by the Ideas para la Paz Foundation, with the participation of the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace and the Colombian Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies.
Founded in 1999, Fundacion Ideas para la Paz (FIP) seeks to overcome armed conflicts through research, monitoring, and dissemination of information. The foundation works throughout Colombia, focusing especially on the places where the conflict is more intense, such as Urabá, Arauca, Antioquia, Magdalena Medio and Caquetá.
In this regard, the conference that will take place in Bogota on Aug.5th is aimed at identifying national and international experiences where information and communication technologies have been used to facilitate and empower the participation of communities in order to understand the potential role of ICT´s in the context of the peace building process.
We will present our platform Deebase and share our experiences in matter of e-deliberation and collective decision making, highlighting the opportunities, and the problems, that can emerge in digital-mediated engagement initiatives. It’s an honor and a privilege for us to attend and to be listed alongside initiatives such as Liquid Feedback as an example of technology for community empowerment.
